* Circular knitting needle 40 in. long in size 8 U.S. OR SIZE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

NOTES
Stitches for the entire bottom edge are cast on, then the shawl is worked up to top edge. Decreases are done in the center to shape piece. The 12-stitch pattern repeat is started at right side edge and worked to center. After decrease is worked, pattern re-ceat continues in mirror image across to eft side edge. This is done for balance. SL 2 is always worked as sl 2 wyib. SHAWL: With MC, CO 442 sts.

Tassels (make 5): Using a 51/2 in. piece of cardboard, wrap MC around 40 times, cut yarn. Holding A, B and C tog, wrap all three yarns around on top of MC 5 times, cut yarn. Slide a length of MC through top of tassel and tie securely. Slide tassel off cardboard. Wrap a length of MC around tassel about 1 in. down from top and tie securely. Cut bottom end loops and trim even. Sew 1 tassel to bottom center back. Sew 1 tassel to each corner of Shawl front.
